How to Live an Eco-Friendly Life
Another oil spill in the gulf, industrial waste in a river just one state away and raw sewage contaminating a local farm. Conner was livid. In fact, he looked as if he were about to explode. So much so that his wife had to intervene. “What’s wrong, Conner” she prodded him with a frown. He all but ignored her and continued to rant. She was finally able to get him to calm down enough for a conversation. It seems that Conner was reading the local newspaper and all three of those scenarios were splashed across the front page. “What is this country coming to” he pondered as he got his emotions under control. Well, his wife Betty wise soul that she is, merely asked him what he was going to do about it. That really caused him some concern as it stopped him cold. “She was absolutely right” he thought. “What am I going to do about it?”
That’s when his decision was made. And, whether it was a cliche or a wake up call, he knew he had to do his part instead of just sitting in his easy chair complaining. That’s when Conner made the decision to reduce his own carbon footprint. Once that was under control then he would have something to complain about. Conner found his answer. Whatever is going on with our plant must begin at home. Each one of us must take personal responsibility to control our actions. Singularly it can be a challenge but collectively we can and will make a difference. Wow! Talk about a wake-up call. Have you ever felt this helpless? It is relatively easy to sit at home and complain about what is going on all around us, but something altogether different to act.
If this sounds familiar maybe you need to look at your surroundings and see what YOU are doing to help us take back our immediate environment. It really does begin at home. Have you done your part? It really isn’t that difficult and costs very little to bear responsibility for ourselves and our immediate family. And, that’s where it really does begin. Right there in your own home. “Okay Ralph” you might say. That’s easier said than done. “I’m not an expert and don’t know squat about what does and does not make my family an “Eco-friendly” member of society.”
