The Fountain of Truth How to Age Gracefully and Healthy
By Kathleen Wright
Sandra’s shoulders were shaking uncontrollably as she sobbed. It was all she could do to remain seated while she struggled through trying to present her feelings to the woman she was paying to listen to her.
What is wrong with me, she thought to herself. She was the “go to gal” both at work and in her personal life. Anytime anyone needed something done, the call rang out “Call Sandy!”
While it had been exhausting, it was also what defined and fulfilled her. It gave her purpose. For decades she and Tim and struggled through life always with the mantra, “wait until we retire!”
Well, Tim hadn’t joined her quite yet, but still she found herself sitting alone every morning drinking her coffee and turning on the television to create some noise in the background. Soap operas all things! Not exactly her genre of choice. But then again, she didn’t seem to have any ideas about choices anymore.
Something had to give. I need to figure this out and do it quickly, else Tim would end up just as unhappy and frustrated as I am!
Do you know anyone who has faced a similar problem? It’s more common than you might think. Let’s face it, we live extreme lifestyles these days. We are constantly on the go and called upon to make instant decisions.
We are expected to balance home, family and a career without breaking any stride. And we do it! Why? Because we have to, at least you do if you want to get ahead in life and plan for that retirement, right?
And there’s the problem. Sandra can’t figure out how to survive outside of the bubble she created for herself. That’s why she is paying a therapist to help her figure out how to go about living with “nothing to do.”
And, in a few short months, her husband will be following her into this abyss and she had to figure out how she was going to survive this let alone help him adjust.
Where Can She Find Some Help?
Well, if you are looking for a therapist, you won’t find one here. But, if you are looking for ways to transition into aging healthy and gracefully then you are in the right place.
