How to Start the Year on a Positive Note
Your New PlanBy
Rosalind couldn’t believe it. Here she was looking the end of the year in the face and what did she have to show for the last 365 days? Not a doggone thing. She looked across the table at her friend Samantha who she met for lunch today. She was practically bubbling over with enthusiasm looking forward to the New Year. How did Sam do it? She was always upbeat and had a positive outlook on life. It seemed like she never had any obstacles to getting what she wanted.
So she asked her. Samantha’s reply? “I just follow the plan,” she said. “Huh? What plan,” Rosalind asked. “My plan for next year,” she replied. “Oh, I get it,” Rosalind replied. “You’re talking about a list of New Years resolutions, right?” “Not really,” Samantha said. “It’s much more than that. Every year I create kind of a master plan of what I want to accomplish in the upcoming year. I create it and every month I read it to see where I am in the overall scheme of things.”
“Doesn’t that get pretty involved, and it sounds kind of boring?” said Rosalind. “Well I guess it all depends on how you look at it. It works well for me,” Sam replied, adding “What do you do to plan for the New Year?” “Uh, well I don’t,” said Rosalind. “Oh,” Sand answered. And how is that working for you?” Okay, I think you get the picture here. Sandy is living a happy, stress free life. Oh, sure she had problems along the way, but who doesn’t? The point is that Sandy always knows exactly how her life is going because she takes control of it. Sandy has “stuff” that happens, but the point is that if her plans get derailed, she immediately reverts to her plan, makes adjustments and sails on.
She has no doubt about how she will meet her goals because she has it planned. And the good news is that you can do it too! No, not just making a list of resolutions for the upcoming year but actually planning out what you want to happen.
