How to Say ‘NO’
About The Author
Just Say No
“Here I go again, Chairman of the new Harvest Day Festival at the junior high school. It’s not like I don’t have anything else to do. Between work, junior soccer practice, church and chores around the house I don’t have a minute to spare. What was I thinking volunteering for another project? I don’t get it. There are plenty of other folks who are just as qualified as me and yet I’m the one who ended up with the job. Hmmm, did I actually volunteer? Now that I think about it Sally asked me if I would do it. And, as usual, I just bounced right up and said YES! Why didn’t I just say NO?”
Poor Stan. He’s on a perpetual do-gooder journey. Do you know someone like Stan? Are YOU anything like him? It seems like he get roped in to just about everything that comes in front of him. Remember that saying from a few years back? It was in the late eighties/early nineties. Just Say No! It was coined by First Lady Nancy Reagan and became the slogan of the war against drugs. It certainly caught on quickly but it can also be attributed to many other situations as well. Take the problem with Stan for example.
Does his situation sound familiar? Do you or someone close to you have the same problem? We are all so doggone busy these days, but we still jump up and say “Yes” when we really mean “No.” Why can’t we just turn it off? Well, “we” can and with a little effort you can too. Okay smarty pants…..
